		<abstract>The measurement of dendrometric variables is a task that demands high costs during, performing inventory. Of the many variables to be investigated in the evaluation of urban afforestation. It is necessary to select which ones are important according to the objectives of the inventory. This research had as main objective, were measured treetop areas by means of aerial photographs at the Jardim Pagani in Bauru-SP. For the accomplishment of this research, the data from an inventory of the Extension Project: Urban Flora. The measurement was processed in the geographic information system (GIS), using the air sales of the analysis units. As the production areas are compared statistically with the collection areas obtained through the conventional inventory. The results confirmed the existence of statistically significant differences between the conventional method and the measurement performed in the GIS tools. This divergence between the acquired results consists of errors of observation and measurement in conventional inventories and with the period and time of acquisition of the image. For the efficiency of GIS measurement, consider that this technique can aid and improve the accuracy of conventional inventory collections, minimizing the high costs of field collections. The use of geoprocessing is important to spatially registering the tree planting, in order to obtain greater practicality in the execution of continuous inventories.</abstract>
